Accordeon Lessons

This blog is about the subjectivity of memory; my memories especially. I want to explore the randomness of life, through my recollections of popular culture in the 60s, when I was young.
At elementary school, there was a somewhat swarthy, gypsy-like man who'd hang around outside the gates at 4 o'clock. He had an accordeon with him and handed out flyers for music lessons to anyone interested. I think he was legitimate and he had a few takers. He seemed incredibly exotic to me.

Accordeon music was definitely not to my taste in the 60's. We had the Beatles, the Kinks, the Rolling Stones and Motown. When I discovered Edith Piaf in my twenties, I remembered the gypsy and his cultural keyboard offerings. One thing leads to another I guess. "Only connect".

The formative years

Every Night when I was a kid, in the heady days of the British Invasion, I would listen to the little black transistor radio tucked under my pillow at night .....those are the songs I still cherish most.

Is there music in your soul?
